Economic Development
Economic development is the engine that helps cities grow.
Indy Gateway helps promote the west side of Indianapolis as an environment where businesses can thrive and find a talented workforce that businesses can rely upon.
Our efforts aim to:
Highlight the west side of Indianapolis and the west Washington Street corridor as a strategic location with access to major interstate interchanges, while still just minutes away from downtown Indianapolis
Emphasize that locating a business on the west side of Indianapolis allows for easy access to the Indianapolis International Airport—not to mention the second largest Fed Ex hub in the country
Promote the rail lines that conveniently run right through the west side of Indianapolis
Support the efforts of Merchants West, a local merchants association along the West Washington Street Corridor and its Shop Local initiative
Westside Revitalization and TIF Incentive Plan
The Indy Gateway Board of Directors has been working with the City of Indianapolis, the State of Indiana, and the Indianapolis International Airport for the past five years to work on bringing revitalization project to the westside of Indianapolis. Indy Gateway was a partner with the City of Indianapolis and designated as the “lead convener” of a Westside Strategic Revitalization & Airport TIF Implementation Plan and subsequent action plan working with the firm of MKSK focused on the West Washington corridor in October 2017. This process organized focus groups that included neighborhood association representatives, business owners and other impacted government and community organizations. The plan was finalized in August 2018 and lays out specific projects to be implemented in the coming years that will spur economic and community development for the area.
